About The Author
Elizabeth Gardner
Elizabeth Gardner writes stories that bring together the things she loves most about storytelling: legends, myths, history, imagination, and characters who discover their strength when circumstances demand it.
Her connection to stories began early. She credits her father, “Yeye,” with giving her a love of letters and books, as well as a fascination with legends, myths, and history. She credits her mother, “Mami,” as her warrior and hero, whose strength taught her to love and keep her family together.
Those influences can be felt in Gardner’s work. Nirk and Whale brings readers to a coastal world inhabited by the Clan of the Salt Water. At its center is Nirk, a young boy whose friendship with a giant blue whale becomes a lesson in compassion, perseverance, and community. When Nirk cannot save Whale by himself, he finds another way: he asks his clan for help. Together, they accomplish what Nirk could never have managed alone.
In The Heir to the Kingdom, Gardner turns toward fantasy, creating a world of Faeries, Wizards, Dragons, kingdoms, magic, and an ancient conflict between Good and Evil. Princess Amelinda is brave, determined, and eager to fight, but her journey teaches her that becoming ready for a great battle can require patience and preparation.
Through these stories, Gardner invites children to experience adventure while discovering values that matter beyond the page.
